This policy explains what the Mutalaa app and this website (“Mutalaa”, “we”) collect, why, and the choices you have.
1. Information we collect
- Account information: if you create an account, your email address and sign-in details (including your name and profile picture if you sign in with Google).
- Reading data: your shelf, reading progress, bookmarks, highlights, reading goals and statistics, and the ratings and review text you choose to write.
- Usage data: when you open a book, we record a timestamp so we can show total reads per book.
- Messages: the name, email and message you send through our contact form.
You can read books without an account; in that case your data stays on your device.
2. How we use it
To provide sign-in and sync, to show aggregate statistics (reads, average rating, shelf counts) and public reviews, to respond to your messages, and to keep the service secure and working.
3. Reviews are public
A rating and review you post is visible to other users alongside your display name.
4. Where data is stored
Account and sync data is stored with our backend provider, Supabase, and the book library is served from cloud storage. Data is transmitted over encrypted connections.
5. Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers needed to run the app (hosting, database, authentication), or if required by law.
6. Retention and deletion
We keep your data while your account exists. You can ask us to delete it at any time; see Delete account.
7. Children
The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
8. Your rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your data by contacting us.
9. Changes
We may update this policy and will change the date above when we do.
